Ask Phoebe

Please click here to send me a question! Love, Phoebe

While Phoebe's identity is a closely guarded secret, she doesn't mind if you know that she is a member of the league and she is definitely female.

A note from your webmaster: Before anyone else asks Phoebe how high to hang the dartboard or where to stand, please check this Dartboard Diagram - it should answer your questions. Also, for advice on different brands of equipment, etc., Phoebe and I heartily recommend Crow's Dart Page. Crow has reviews on many items as well as MUCH more information about darts. Check it out!

Dear Phoebe,

First of all, I love to play darts. Is there a certin way to hold the dart for perfect flight, or does this depend on the dart weight, and style. I throw soft tip darts.

Signed,

dart father of two

Dear "dart father of two",

Grip is a personal issue!

Dear Phoebe,

We all know you can't stand closer than the throw line, but is there a rule against standing further back?

Signed,

Long Arm

Dear "Long Arm",

I could not find any rules on limiting how far you can stand back from the line. The only rule that applies is that you can not step over the toe line. You must stand a minimum distance away, but are not required to stand at that distance.

I discussed this last evening with the SCDL scorekeeper and he was in agreement with me. However, there are precautions to be taken that you do not throw from so far back as to put others in harms way. To clarify: If you are standing back so far that someone may not realize you are getting ready to throw, they may step in front of you.

If there is a rule concerning this issue that someone else knows of, please send it in to Ask Phoebe. I'd like to know.

Thanks for your question and Keep "em Flying!!!

Love, Phoebe

Dear Phoebe,

I am an avid dart player from Michigan who visits family in your town once or twice a year. Do you ever hold luck of the draw or open tournaments that I could join next time I am in St. Charles?

Signed,

MI Darter

Dear "MI Darter",

Thanks for your interest. If you found me, you've obviously found the SCDL website. We've included some of the local weekly tournaments on our site. I would invite you to stop by Eagles Nest Pub on Friday night and South 94 Bistro on Saturday afternoon. MVDO hosts weekly tournaments as well. I would check out their site for more information.

If you are a soft tip player, there are a few bars in O'fallon which hold soft tip tournaments as well. I know very little about them but the HOTSHOTS SPORTS BAR AND GRILL website might be helpful.

Hope to see you at the tournaments!

Love, Phoebe

Dear "me also phoebe",

While I may have stepped outside the "dart" boundaries on occasion, I try to stick to dart or dart affiliated subjects.
Thanks for your interest.

Dear Phoebe,

I work in an office in Seattle, and we are looking at putting a dart team together. There are one or two people in the office that have some skill. We keep a board in the lunch room... and YES we figured out to hang it and place the line all by ourselves;-) We've managed to assemble half a dozen neophytes that are willing to give it a go (amazing what cold beer will accomplish).

Anyways, I'd like to know if you can direct us to a good site/book/video on the basics of how to stand, throw, etc. We can all hit the board (most of the time), but there is a good deal of debate over where to hold the dart, to spin/not spin, arm vs. wrist, lean/no lean, etc. We're having fun, but we don't want to have to hang our heads in shame down at the pub for lack of basic technique. Ummm... assuming there is a basic technique.

Thanks!

Signed,

Lunchroom Leaners

Dear "Lunchroom Leaners",

Thanks for the message!

Please check out
Crow's Dart Page on the web!

Keep 'em flyin!

Love, Phoebe
