League To Begin Player Registration
March 7, 2000
The SCDL Board of Directors met on March 6 and considered an appeal by Team Captain Cris Crites over forfeits assessed against her team for the use of an ineligible player (see "Captain Files Appeal Over Forfeits For Ineligible Player").
Once again, after reviewing the applicable rules, the Board reiterated that it had no leeway in assessing the forfeits.
A suggestion at the end of Cris' letter that new players should be registered and their age verified before they are allowed to play was discussed enthusiastically by the Board, however. There was a general consensus that registration is a good idea and that someone should check each new player's drivers licence or other ID to verify their age.
Rule 6d explicitly makes team captains responsible for the integrity of their rosters. The Board decided that, beginning with the Summer, 2000 season, that the Team Signup forms should include a new section to be signed by the team captain stating that they have verified the age of the players on their roster. In addition, blank forms will be included in the captain's folders to be used when new players are added during the season.
Other Business
During the meeting, the Board also discussed:
Captain's Meeting - The mid-season Captain's Meeting is scheduled for March 20 at the St. Charles VFW hall beginning at 7:30 PM. Secretary Steve Saale plans to mail reminder cards to the captains this week.
Elections - The deadline for candidate nominations and presidential petitions is March 25. Forms are being distributed with standings this week and members for an Election Committee will be recruited as soon as possible.
Spring Party - The Board continued planning for the Spring Party, tentatively scheduled for May 6, 2000. The St. Charles Moose Lodge will be contacted to determine date availability.
Accountant Appointed - The Board agreed to "hire" Rick Blalock as the league's accountant. Rick is a league member currently playing in the Thursday B2 Blue division. Rick will assist Treasurer Laura Griffin to set up the corporate books and file tax returns for the league.
Bi-State Tournament - The MVDO Board has appointed Mel Corchran to be it's Bi-State Committee representative. The SIDA and Blueberry Hill leagues still have not made appointments. A committee meeting is due to take place this month.
Governor's Cup Tournament - The Central Missouri Dart Association has announced that their Governor's Cup Tournament is being revived after a two-year hiatus. The tournament consists of all-star teams from around Missouri and is scheduled for September, 2000 in Jefferson City. The SCDL has sponsored teams to the tournament in the past. Discussion was tabled since the tournament will take place well after the next Board takes office.
Next Meeting - The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Directors will be held on April 3, 2000 at Tuners Bar and Grill in St. Charles beginning at 8:00 PM. League members are welcome to attend.
