October 2, 2000 Board of Directors Meeting Summary
October 4, 2000
The Board of Directors held its regular monthly meeting on October 2 at the Partners II in St. Charles.
Election Results
Kathy VanStrien, chairman of the Election Committee, presented the results of the special election for Vice President to the Board. The results are as follows:
Dave Race - 119
Carla Wessel - 46
George Silvey - 35
Dave Maxwell - 26
Marti Moore - 13
Mike Young - 12
George Arnold - 1
Aaron Briley - 1
The Board accepted the results with thanks to the committee and Dave Race assumed his office immediately.
Dan "Blocker" Beilsmith Impeached
Member-At-Large Dan "Blocker" Beilsmith has moved out of the St. Louis area. In the absence of a letter of resignation, the Board took the formal step of impeaching him from office so that a new Member-At-Large can be found.
Open Tournament In 2001
The Board of directors also discussed holding an ADO sanctioned open dart tournament in 2001. The first tournament, still to be scheduled, would be kept small (in the $2,000 range) so that the Board and the Tournament Committee can gain experience. The Board's eventual goal is to hold a $5,000 tournament, to be called the Steamboat Open.
Date for Winter Banquet Confirmed
The date for the Winter Awards Banquet and General Member's Meeting has been confirmed for Friday, January 5, 2001 at Stegton's Banquet Center.
Member Dues Increased
The Board voted to permanently increase Member Dues to $2 per week beginning in the Winter, 2001 Season. A formal budget is to be prepared and presented to the membership. This increase will include the league's annual ADO membership dues.
Carla Wessel Appointed Permanent ADO Representative
Member-At-Large Carla Wessel, who has been acting as ADO Representative since the impeachment of Cowboy Dixon, was formally appointed to the position by the Board.
Youth League to be Organized
Chris Schrum and Marty Moore have volunteered to begin efforts to organize a Youth League to begin in January, 2001. The Board pledged to do everything in their power to help and support their effort.
Open Doubles League
The Board voted to offer an Open Doubles league, to begin in January, 2001. Interested players will be surveyed for their preference on which night of the week it should be held. If it is held on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, it could be organized similarly to the Mixed Doubles on Wednesday night.
If Open Doubles is held on Mondays, the division would miss two nights because of Captain's Meetings and would only play 13 weeks. In this case, a minimum of six teams would be required in order to pay for their trophies. A 13 week schedule, however, dictates a six team maximum as well, so the division would need to be organized in multiples of six teams only.
October FallStars Tournament Date Confirmed
The annual October FallStars Challenge Tournament, between the SCDL and the Southern Illinois Darting Association (SIDA) will be held in Illinois on Saturday, October 21.
Last year the tournament was held at the Hot Shots Bar & Grill in St. Charles and the SCDL swept all three trophies.
Team Selection System Tabled
The Board decided to table the question of a Selection System for teams to FallStars, Bi-State and Governor's Cup in order to solicit additional suggestions for the system. Currently there are three systems under consideration, but the Board felt that additional input from the league is required before a system is chosen.
Next Board Meeting
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Directors will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2000 at noon at Bases Loaded Sports Bar in O'Fallon.
