2001 October FallStars Challenge Match Awarded to Scrooge's Pub

October 13, 2001

The fifth annual October FallStars inter-league challenge tournament between the SCDL and the Southern Illinois Darting Association will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2001.

This year, the Tournament will be held at Scrooge's Pub in Cave Springs Bowling Lanes. Scrooge's submitted a high bid of $625, the highest amount ever bid for this event.

League President Walt Molnar said, "While we're happy that the bars consider this event to be valuable, this is kind of an embarrassment of riches and it could actually be a problem that the winning bid is so high because it discourages many bars from even bidding on the event." The winning bid two years ago was $550 and this year Scrooge's bid of $625 was the only bid received by the league.

The SCDL hosts this tournament in alternate years. As with previous tournaments held here in 1997 and 1999, the SCDL Board of Directors solicited sealed bids from its sponsors for the opportunity to hold this event (the money is intended to help to allay the League's costs for commemorative shirts for the participants and any other expenses incurred).

"Two years from now we may need to look at some other method, such as an open auction instead of sealed bids, so that bidders don't think they always need to go higher and higher," Walt said, "We'd be happy just to get enough to cover the T-shirts and maybe some doughnuts and coffee in the morning, so maybe we should just start an auction around that amount and go from there."

The tournament consists of six all-star teams from each league, two "Gold" teams, two "Silver" teams and two "Bronze" teams, with six players per team. The "Gold" bracket inludes our A1 and A2 divisions, "Silver" includes our B1 and B2 and "Bronze" includes our B3 and C. Participation is by Presidential Invitation and preliminary team rosters are already being compiled.
