Sportsmanship

12/08/2004

By Sue Hackett

“Good darts!”, “Way to go!”, and high fives from your teammates as well as your opponents.  Remember those days?  I do.  But lately I have noticed much more…darts being thrown across the room without any regard to the people around, fists hitting walls, and voices being raised in anger.

What is going on?  Have we forgotten that this is a game?  Did you realize that we play darts as a form of entertainment?

What is the first thing you learn when you play sports?  SPORTSMANSHIP.  What does this mean?  It means that you treat others (teammates, opponents, captains, referees, and spectators) with the RESPECT that you feel you deserve.  Build someone else up with comments that are encouraging.  Help those that could use your knowledge of the game.  Promote the spirit of competition and comraderie.  Show others that this is a great time to be had by all.

I just wanted to remind you (everyone), that darts is a sport.  Let’s conduct ourselves in a sportsmanlike manner.
