Board Votes One-season Fee Increase
July 27, 1999
At its meeting on July 26, the SCDL Board of Directors voted to increase league member's dues for the Fall Season to $2 per week. The decision currently applies only to the Fall, 1999 season and fees would revert to their previous level for the Winter, 2000 Season if the Board takes no further action.
"A permanent increase to two dollars is more than we need," said League President Scott Martin, "So we decided not to make it permanent but to take it season to season at this point. We have some one-time expenses coming up that we need to cover such as an overhaul of the league's copier and incorporation expenses. We've also taken on some new expenses since fees were last increased such as storage locker rental and an Internet website as well as higher costs for trophies, etc."
In addition, Scott said that the Board has agreed to reimburse the League Scorekeeper for his milage as an expense item at the rate of $0.25 per mile. "On the other hand," said Scott, "we have made some large savings in postage and copy costs since [League Scorekeeper] Dave Race stopped mailing the standings and started delivering them to the home bar."
The extra dollar during the Fall Season should raise at least an additional $7,500 and create enough of a surplus to carry through for the remainder of the SCDL fiscal year without continuing the fee increase in the Winter or Summer 2000 Seasons.
"I'm philosophically opposed to carrying a surplus," said Scott, "but our expenses are not the same each season - some expenses are annual or just one-time and we need to have the resourses to cover them, too. This should help us do that."
"However," Scott said, "if the league votes to join the A.D.O. in January then the situation may change." The above surplus may or may not cover these expenses too, he said.
"We plan on crossing that bridge when we come to it," said Scott.
